10-3 Since All-Star Break/ Astros Game/ Other Drama.

The Cubs have been dominating the National League ever since the All Star Break. They were in first place for less than 24 hours the one day, and are now a half game behind to St. Louis. Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano have been waking up the offense as all three of them have been hitting like crazy. Homeruns, basehits, RBI’s you name it.

Reed Johnson has been placed on the disabled list for a foot fracture. He fouled a ball off of his foot against the Astros game on Wednesday. So that is a minor set back. Geovany Soto’s injury has been a work in progress and he can return as early as next week. Also, Ted Lilly had to go to the disabled list. He had to get knee surgery and it went well.

Ryan Theriot has been hitting well today against the Astros for a make up game. He’s had 3 RBI’s off a triple and a sac fly. Jake Fox and Milton Bradley had back to back jacks. Mike Fontenot had a triple and an RBI. They are winning 10-3 in the TOP 6th. Kevin Hart just retired the side.

Rich Harden got his touch back against the Nationals. He’s been having a rough outing lately, but the Nationals game was a confidence builder for him. They swept the Nationals in a 3 game series.

Randy Wells has been in the talk of “Rookie of the Year”. Yesterday, the Cubs won 12-0. Wells had 1 K, with 5 hits (all singles). There were A LOT of double play balls and easy pop ups and grounders. The defense backed him up as well as the offense. The bats came ALIVE yesterday.

The Cubs are now a half game out of first, St. Louis is in first place. The 1 game out of first for the Wild Card. This is only game 100, there are plenty more to go in this season. If the Cubs keep hitting and making the offense come alive, then they will be plenty fine.

In other news… Mark Buerhle had a Perfect game and set a new record of retiring 45 batters in a row. But yesterday the Sox got swept in the double header against the Twins.

STEROID TALK: It has been given out that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were on the PED list back in 2003. The list just keeps on spilling out….

Well, that’s all I got for now. GO CUBS!

The Double Play Duo & Hill’s Comeback “This Week In Baseball”

Chicago– It is no surprise that Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot work together seamlessly in the middle of the Cubs’ infield, considering their relationship goes back to their college days at LSU. As it turns out, they work together pretty well on camera, too.

The Cubs’ double-play combo is the centerpiece of Saturday’s “This Week in Baseball,” which will air at 2:30 p.m. CT on FOX, just before the Cubs take on the division rival Cardinals. The show, filmed during Chicago’s series in Milwaukee in early May, also will give an overview of the Cubs’ season and features an in-depth look at catcher Koyie Hill’s comeback from a gruesome hand injury.

The rapport Fontenot and Theriot have developed on and off the field came through when they sat down together with “TWIB” for an interview, according to producer Paul Solga.

“They had a really good, playful interaction going back and forth,” Solga said. “They were agreeable to sharing stories and insights of what it was like playing then, and what it’s like playing now and how it helps them instinctually knowing the other one is there and knowing what their move is before it even happens.”

The interview covered the two players’ story, which began when they played together at LSU in 2000-01. The show will feature footage of the Tigers winning the 2000 College World Series and Theriot scoring the winning run in the final game.

Fontenot and Theriot both were selected in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, although Fontenot originally was taken by the Orioles before being traded to the Cubs in 2005 as part of a deal for Sammy Sosa. Theriot became the Cubs’ starting shortstop in the middle of 2007, while Fontenot took over everyday second-base duties this season. Because of their history and close relationship, the two are lumped together often in media coverage.

“I’m always tired of him,” Fontenot joked about Theriot. “No, we have fun. We’ve been good friends, and our families have been good friends because we’ve known each other for a while now. We don’t get tired of each other as much as you’d think.”

The show also planted a microphone on Fontenot during batting practice to capture the team’s behind-the-scenes chatter.

“We kind of stayed conscious of it,” Fontenot said, “just so we wouldn’t drop any bad words or anything like that. So we just tried to talk and make it fun.”

In addition to Fontenot and Theriot, the show also profiles Hill, who lost three fingers and a thumb on his right hand in a table-saw accident in October 2007. The right-handed catcher showed the cameras how he lost the fingers and how doctors reattached them in a way that made it easiest for him to grip and throw a ball.

Hill also talked about his struggle to make it back to the Major Leagues, which he did last season with the Cubs. He made the team this spring as the backup to Geovany Soto.

“It’s pretty powerful stuff to see the images of his mangled hand and fingers and then see the footage of him coming back,” Solga said.

Besides the Cubs-related content, Saturday’s program also will reveal the Pepsi Clutch Performer for the month of June and preview the 2009 All-Star Game, which will take place Tuesday in St. Louis.

FUN FOR THE COMMENTERS!!! Number 6 BRING IT BACK UP!!

Alright. Well first off, I am SO SORRY to the Red Sox blog that I posted on, I thought it was a Rays blog. My deepest apologizes. I rooted for you guys back in 2003 I believe. No hating what so ever.

Alright second.. I’m dropped to number 6! I dedicated a song for you guys! And I get dropped down 1! Come on now guys! haha

I decided that I would have a little fun with this one and have you guys say your opinions on things. I’m going to put What If’s and Would You Rather’s on here. It’s baseball related of course (in case some perv’s are on here). Alright.. here we go…

  • What if Aramis Ramirez was traded?
  • Who would win a fight? Zambrano OR Derrek Lee?
  • Who do you think is the most hardworking guy on the 2008 Cubs team?
  • Do you think Ryan Theriot is an underestimated ball player?
  • Who would you NOT like to see come back for the 2009 season?
  • If you could dine with ANY Cubs player, who would it be and why?
  • If you could bring back any Cubs player from the past, who would it be and why?
  • Do you think Geovany Soto deserves the ROOKIE OF THE YEAR award?
  • Who do you think was the best pitcher on the Cubs this year?
  • Alright, last but not least… who do you think is the studliest guy on the team? haha had to throw that in there!

Alright, well hope you have fun with that. I love comments and opinions. Keep them coming. Let it rock! and Keep on truckin’!

OH YEAH!!! ALRIGHT!!!! WAYNES WORLD!!!

“Tale of Two Seasons”- Not Our Time.

In 2007 it was the Diamondbacks that swept our Cubs. This year, it was the Dodgers. Well, you cant win them all. Every single Cubs fan out there is going to back me up on this one, they had an AMAZING regular season, but they couldnt dig deep down enough to get them past the first round in the playoffs. Every single fan is upset, they’re angry, they’re sad, or their feelings are ambigous. And that’s okay. I’m really upset because this team was good. I mean they were REALLY good. Great offense, great defense, awesome bullpen, killer starting rotation, but once playoff time came, it was as if they just froze. They forgot to just relax and play the game. I think they were trying SO hard to prove that they could get past the first round and win that they forgot to breathe and let their actions take over their minds. This team was thinking WAY too much. You cant think about things too much when you’re on the field, you just do them. Because if you stop to think, you interrupt what your body knows, and things turn out for the worst. I’ve been there. I’ve done that. Word has it that most of our 2008 Cubs are coming back for the 2009 season. Let’s hope so. I hope EVERY guy comes back. This was an awesome team, and with more practice, patience, and grace, I think they can really come back next year and have a season like this one, but go deeper into the playoffs.

These boys are human. They wanted it as much as us fans wanted it. The whole Cubs Nation will be mourning it when they come back home. But I just want to say Congrats on an awesome season.

I’ll be rooting for the Rays…

All Is Silent On the Chicago Front

Wow. Giving up 17 runs in 2 games is pretty poopy. Especially during the 2nd game, only 3 of those runs were earned. Too many errors have been made, The Cubs are getting nervous. No matter what way you put it, they’re nervous and scared and they seem like they’re just happy that they’ve made it this far. Well, they have to aim a little higher. The Dodgers arent an AMAZING team, they are beatable. EVERY team is beatable. That’s what I dont understand.

Demp and Big Z are AMAZING pitchers, but the defense didnt back them up. Demp threw way too many balls and walked way too much. Big Z was pitching great, but with Theriot accidently trying to barehand a ball that he couldve used his mitt for, DeRo misreading a grounder, D-Lee losing the ball on a wierd hop, and A-Ram not picking up the grounder clean, yeah you’re gonna lose.

That’s why we need our offense!! We have no offense!!! The bats have been really dead. DeRo had a 2 run homer, and the only 2 RBI’S in Game 1. Then I turned off the 2nd game because it was seriously disappointing. They ended up losing 10-3. At least they got SOME RUNS.

Well, the Sox fans have been quiet as well. They’re just like the Cubs. 0-2 in their series. At least if they both lose, we can talk about who sucked more. But I dont want that to happen. I want the Cubs to redeem themselves, and open a can of woop-*** on the Dodgers. I believe that they can make a comeback. They just need to believe in theirselves. And they need to wake up their bats, their defense, and most of all, they need to wake themselves up.

The Cubs are going AWAY losing 0-2 in a series. So I think that might help them a little bit… because if they lose, they dont have their own fans on them like dip on a chip. Whereas the Sox are coming home for the rest of the series. If they lose at home, their fans are gonna be p.oed. They better watch themselves if they lose. But that’s the fielding situations… and how I see it.

Game 3 is at Dodger Stadium. 9:07 CDT. Harden and Kuroda face off. This is the Cubs make it or break it moment.

It’s your turn Harden. Go out there and show them what you got.

Battle of Playoff Hill- Game 1- Demp Vs Lowe

Tomorrow is when the showdown begins. Cubs VS Dodgers on TBS. I’m really excited for this game. Demp is going to be pitching, so we will have a pretty fair chance of winning. The starters need to relax, and pretend it’s like any other game. They’ve gotta work hard, take pitches, swing at GOOD pitches, and take their time on defense. Because in order to stay, the need to win, and in order to win, they need to play smart and the cycle goes on. So Cubs fans, turn your channels on watch this rollar coaster ride of a playoff game.

“The man who makes a success of an important venture never wails for the crowd. He strikes out for himself. It takes nerve, it takes a great lot of grit; but the man that succeeds has both. Anyone can fail. The public admires the man who has enough confidence in himself to take a chance. These chances are the main things after all. The man who tries to succeed must expect to be criticized. Nothing important was ever done but the greater number consulted previously doubted the possibility. Success is the accomplishment of that which most people think can’t be done.”

Im GETTING this shirt tomorrow, no matter what happens. ITS A MUST. still waiting for a Theriot picture and a Derrek Lee photo.. that I can put on here. Well, if I find anything else I’ll put it on here in a heartbeat! Ill be writing A LOT more tomorrow ( after I get my Cubs tee shirt) and all that jazz!

Remember Cubs fans, THIS IS OUR TIME! WITHOUT A DOUBT and the Cubs arent goin’ down WITHOUT A FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Later and Respect!

All It Takes Is ONE.

Since the Brewers lost yesterday, the Chicago Cub’s Magic number to clinching the Division is 1. All it takes is one…

The Cubs play today against the St. Louis Cardinals at 2:55 Central on Fox. Ted Lilly will be on the mound looking for his 16th win of the season. I’ll be writing more during gametime.

STICK IT TO EM’ CUBBIES! Lilly’s 15th Win.

How cool would it have been to have 2 NO HITTERS in back to back games?!?! Oh well. Giving up only 1 hit in 2 games is a BIG accomplishment for both Zambrano and Lilly. Lilly pitched awesome today with 9 strikeouts and 1 hit through 7 innings. Lilly is now 15-9

Derrek Lee, Jim Edmonds and Geovony Soto each had a homerun to contribute to the 6-1 win.

I’m lovin’ EVERY SINGLE moment of this. These players are showing their true colors. They just need to keep on truckin’. Next game is tomorrow against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field at 7:05 CENTRAL TIME.

Here’s some photo action.

I’ll be updating more tomorrow during the Cubs- Brewers game. Have a good night. Respect.
