10-3 Since All-Star Break/ Astros Game/ Other Drama.

The Cubs have been dominating the National League ever since the All Star Break. They were in first place for less than 24 hours the one day, and are now a half game behind to St. Louis. Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano have been waking up the offense as all three of them have been hitting like crazy. Homeruns, basehits, RBI’s you name it.

Reed Johnson has been placed on the disabled list for a foot fracture. He fouled a ball off of his foot against the Astros game on Wednesday. So that is a minor set back. Geovany Soto’s injury has been a work in progress and he can return as early as next week. Also, Ted Lilly had to go to the disabled list. He had to get knee surgery and it went well.

Ryan Theriot has been hitting well today against the Astros for a make up game. He’s had 3 RBI’s off a triple and a sac fly. Jake Fox and Milton Bradley had back to back jacks. Mike Fontenot had a triple and an RBI. They are winning 10-3 in the TOP 6th. Kevin Hart just retired the side.

Rich Harden got his touch back against the Nationals. He’s been having a rough outing lately, but the Nationals game was a confidence builder for him. They swept the Nationals in a 3 game series.

Randy Wells has been in the talk of “Rookie of the Year”. Yesterday, the Cubs won 12-0. Wells had 1 K, with 5 hits (all singles). There were A LOT of double play balls and easy pop ups and grounders. The defense backed him up as well as the offense. The bats came ALIVE yesterday.

The Cubs are now a half game out of first, St. Louis is in first place. The 1 game out of first for the Wild Card. This is only game 100, there are plenty more to go in this season. If the Cubs keep hitting and making the offense come alive, then they will be plenty fine.

In other news… Mark Buerhle had a Perfect game and set a new record of retiring 45 batters in a row. But yesterday the Sox got swept in the double header against the Twins.

STEROID TALK: It has been given out that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were on the PED list back in 2003. The list just keeps on spilling out….

Well, that’s all I got for now. GO CUBS!

CUBSsunset.jpg

St. Louis and Cubs Split the Series 2-2.

Randy Wells is pitching Game 2 of the Double Header! The score is 2-1 at the TOP 5th. Sam Fuld had a nice diving catch an earlier inning before.

He JUST struck out Shumacker. The first out was a force at 2nd from Baker to Theriot, who got Adam Wainwright out, BUT he put his hand UP while sliding to distract Ryan Theriot and Theriot threw it and it HIT the palm of Wainwright’s hand, and it deflected. The ump called him out at 2, but not that interference out. It was interference, he knew Theriot was trying to get that double play. But Hill picked off the runer at 2 the runner (Brendan Ryan) anyway, so it doesnt matter.

Damn Ludwick…. he had a 2 run homer.. 4-1 in the TOP 6th.

WOOOO RBI double in the BOT 6th by Milton Bradley! He scores Aramis Ramirez! 4-2!

They put Sean Marshall in the TOP 9th… then?… now… they’re putting Marshall in LF… taking Soriano out? Then putting Heilman in? WHAT is going on here?? This is the weirdest situation ever Lou! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HEILMAN STRUCK RYAN OUT!!!!! Okay… Lou put Heilman in to strikeout the righty Ryan, but didnt want to take Marshall out of the game. Gotcha. Now he took Heilman out… he put Reed Johnson in LF, and Marshall to pitch. But Tony La Russa is questioning this. SHOOT. La Russa is switching the lefty hitter (Shumaker) and is putting in the righty Jarrett Hoffpauir (they have a Hoffpauir too St. Louis NO relation to Micah). This is weird.  WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! MARSHALL STRUCK OUT HOFFPAUIR!!!!! 2 OUTS!

HOLY CRAP!!! HOLY CRAP!! HOLY CRAP! REEED JOHNSON GOT THE CATCH!!! HE GOT THE CATCH! THAT WAS THE SICKEST CATCH IVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS BETTER THAN ROBBING PRINCE FIELDER OF A GRAND SLAM!!!! HOLY CRUD! THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Milton Bradley strikesout. CRUD that was too outside and a little high. GOSH DANG IT Baker strikesout too!!!! That’s too inside! Come on Hoffpauir… 2 outs, we need you.

And of course, Hoffpauir looks at strike 3. SWING THE FRICKEN BAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL 3 OF YOU GUYS WATCHED STRIKE 3 GO BY. GO DOWN SWINGING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT WATCH IT WHEN YOU NEED 3 RUNS TO WIN A GAME IN A CLUTCH MOMENT. BLAST IT.. THAT IS MY PET PEEVE.

RandyWells.jpg

Randy Wells suffered a tough loss. The Cubs offense shouldve backed him up.

St Louis-1, Cubs- 2. ONE Game to Go.

Game 1 of the double header is going good for the Cubs so far in through the 4th. Micah Hoffpauir had a 3 run homer to make it 3-0, but Albert Pujols hit a 2 run double and eventually scores on a single to make it 3-3. But BIG Z hits a solo homerun to make it 4-3 for the Cubs.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

An error by St. Louis’s catcher, bases were loaded, Schumaker tried to get the force at home, and their catcher missed the plate, which scored Soriano. THEN, Pujlos missed a grounder by Koyie Hill, which scored Hoffpauir and Bradley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7-3 CUBS!! P.J Walters walks Fukudome. Bases are loaded again 2 outs. Theriot grounds out.

AND THE CUBS WIN GAME ONE OF THE DOUBLE HEADER!!!

GO CUBS GO, GO CUBS GO HEY CHICAGO WHATTA YA SAY? THE CUBS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY! GO CUBS GO, GO CUBS GO! HEY CHICAGO WHATTA YA SAY? THE CUBS ARE GONNA WIN TODAY!

Baker made a NICE play. Theriot couldnt find the ball in the sun, and Baker got Pujlos out at 2nd.

The Double Play Duo & Hill’s Comeback “This Week In Baseball”

Chicago– It is no surprise that Mike Fontenot and Ryan Theriot work together seamlessly in the middle of the Cubs’ infield, considering their relationship goes back to their college days at LSU. As it turns out, they work together pretty well on camera, too.

The Cubs’ double-play combo is the centerpiece of Saturday’s “This Week in Baseball,” which will air at 2:30 p.m. CT on FOX, just before the Cubs take on the division rival Cardinals. The show, filmed during Chicago’s series in Milwaukee in early May, also will give an overview of the Cubs’ season and features an in-depth look at catcher Koyie Hill’s comeback from a gruesome hand injury.

The rapport Fontenot and Theriot have developed on and off the field came through when they sat down together with “TWIB” for an interview, according to producer Paul Solga.

“They had a really good, playful interaction going back and forth,” Solga said. “They were agreeable to sharing stories and insights of what it was like playing then, and what it’s like playing now and how it helps them instinctually knowing the other one is there and knowing what their move is before it even happens.”

The interview covered the two players’ story, which began when they played together at LSU in 2000-01. The show will feature footage of the Tigers winning the 2000 College World Series and Theriot scoring the winning run in the final game.

Fontenot and Theriot both were selected in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, although Fontenot originally was taken by the Orioles before being traded to the Cubs in 2005 as part of a deal for Sammy Sosa. Theriot became the Cubs’ starting shortstop in the middle of 2007, while Fontenot took over everyday second-base duties this season. Because of their history and close relationship, the two are lumped together often in media coverage.

“I’m always tired of him,” Fontenot joked about Theriot. “No, we have fun. We’ve been good friends, and our families have been good friends because we’ve known each other for a while now. We don’t get tired of each other as much as you’d think.”

The show also planted a microphone on Fontenot during batting practice to capture the team’s behind-the-scenes chatter.

“We kind of stayed conscious of it,” Fontenot said, “just so we wouldn’t drop any bad words or anything like that. So we just tried to talk and make it fun.”

In addition to Fontenot and Theriot, the show also profiles Hill, who lost three fingers and a thumb on his right hand in a table-saw accident in October 2007. The right-handed catcher showed the cameras how he lost the fingers and how doctors reattached them in a way that made it easiest for him to grip and throw a ball.

Hill also talked about his struggle to make it back to the Major Leagues, which he did last season with the Cubs. He made the team this spring as the backup to Geovany Soto.

“It’s pretty powerful stuff to see the images of his mangled hand and fingers and then see the footage of him coming back,” Solga said.

Besides the Cubs-related content, Saturday’s program also will reveal the Pepsi Clutch Performer for the month of June and preview the 2009 All-Star Game, which will take place Tuesday in St. Louis.

Depressing Posts for the Last Few Days: Lets Try Something NEW!

I’ve been looking through pictures, so instead of all the depressing posts about injuries and losses, I’ll post some funny pictures and captions.

A. hit the ball so well he’s in tears

B. grounded out and is having a hissy fit

C. fouled the ball off of his body

D. turned to the bench and saw Kevin Gregg’s face

10th Inning Bases Loaded Walk SEALS Win

The Cubs did it again in extra innings. Theriot started it off with a single, then 3 walks later, scored. Jake Fox was up with the bases loaded, he kept the count at 3-2, as he fouled off multiple times, then later got the 4th ball to seal the W. Carlos Zambrano also had an RBI hit. The score was 2-1.

Fukudome made a game saving play with 2 outs. Prince Fielder had a single to CF, and runner was heading for home, Fuku threw out the runner on a one bouncer to Hill. Game saving play of the day folks.

Let’s hope the Cubs can pull out another W today as they take on the Brewers in the 3rd game of a 4 game series.

Week filled with; Grins, Wins and Battles Within!

Cant get enough of the Cubs. They are on a 4 game winning streak with a split of the series with the Sox and a 3 Game Series SWEEP against the Cleveland Indians. 3 of which are comebacks and clutches. Derrek Lee is on an 18 game hitting streak, Wells got his first W, and Kevin Gregg didnt blow a save!

SWEEEP.jpg

groundscrew.jpg

Our grounds crew did an amazing job getting the field playable and dry. I must say, we have probably the best grounds crew in the history of grounds crews in Wrigley. They definitely know how to take on Chicago weather.

happyjoy.jpgJust seeing A.J. P of the Sox walking away in shame is priceless as it is. This hug is probably one of the most chilling moments EVER captured. It gives me goosebumps just looking at this picture. Know that the Cubs can make a comeback in the 2nd to last inning is pretty amazing. One of the best comebacks in Cub History. Grins.

How bout’ a round of applause? Standin’ ovation? But you put on quite a show, really had me goin’, now it’s time to go, curtain’s finally closin’!

Wins.

This Theriot picture is sweet! No no, cross that. It’s EPIC.

sori22.jpg

Soriano was having a tough outing recently. His batting has been pretty ugly the last couple of games. Pinella had thoughts about moving him out of the leadoff spot, but decided against it. He came in clutch for us as he drove in the winning run with a bloop right field single to win the Sox game 6-5. A grin, win AND battle within if I do say so myself.

  Life is Good.

Happy Father’s Day! Cubs SWEEP the Indians!

Happy Father’s Day to all the MLB players who are fathers and daddy’s!

Cubs are up 2-0 in the 4th inning by Geovany Soto’s solo homerun and Jake Fox’s sac fly to DeRosa to score Theriot. Soto walks in the 5th and another run scores to make it 4-0.

randy wells.jpg

Randy Wells is pitching a very good game today. In 5 innings so far, he has only allowed 2 hits. He also got a single in the 5th. Wells scores on Derrek Lee’s bases loaded single! Wells gets pulled at the TOP 7th with 2 outs and man on 1st and 3rd. He did a very good job today limiting the Indians to 1 run.

derrek.jpg

Derrek Lee has been on FIRE this series. Before this game, he was batting 5 for 10 with 3 homeruns and 4 runs scored! He just had a bases loaded single!

jake fox.jpg

Jake FOX GETS a 2 run DOUBLE!! JUST missed a grand slam by 10 feet!! 6-0 CUBS in the 5th!!! Fox ended up with 3 RBI’s!
