My Day At Wrigley Field

Going to the Cubs game today was a lot of fun. I was in the bleachers under the scoreboard in center field.

I took pictures and screamed, was bored, was happy, was upset and was also pissed. There was so many mixed emotions today, but that’s what I love about going there. You dont have to have ONE emotion the whole time, if the Cubs do something wrong, you can be pissed. If Soriano hits a homerun (( like he did today to win the game )) you can be happy and cheer like a maniac. Or if Marmol strikes out 2 people in a row, you can mock Sox fans saying “HE GONE!” and laughing about it.

Standing up for the Star Spangled Banner was unbelievable. It makes you wanna be down there with the players with a uniform on and saying a prayer just like Theriot does. I’ve seen him do it. He’s very serious about that moment in time.

The 7th Inning stretch is where the magic happens. They always find a way to come back later in the game. And singing the stretch was fun, because you can enjoy the company of all the Cubs fans in the ballpark. It’s like we all come together in that moment of time to cheer for our Chicago Cubs.

And in the end, when the Cubs WIN, and they play Go Cubs Go. Holy crap, it’s CRAZY when they win and they play that song. That is another song where all the fans come together and enjoy each other’s company and enjoy being a Cubs Fan. Seeing the boards light up with “CUBS WIN” is an awesome feeling. If I think it’s an awesome feeling, I could only imagine how the athletes we cheer for feel.

“If coaches show confidence in you like that, you have to give it back to them, you have to go out there and succeed so he wants to use you again.Today, we battled a bit and walked a couple guys. I just wanted to get in there and keep throwing strikes and make them make some plays. I had a couple good ground balls and a couple close plays. I thought it went well, and hopefully I can go out back out there again and make it a little cleaner.”

8th Inning Rally Seals the Win for the Cubs

My commentary while watching the game: You know what? Let’s scratch the bad stuff..

All looked gloomy when Big Z gave up 3 runs in the first inning. Throwing about 35 pitches in just that inning alone..

But in the Top of the 4th the bases were loaded with no outs for Geovoany Soto. A double hit in the gap in right field scored 3 runs in the inning, gaining the lead 4-3.Then Zambrano had an RBI single, scoring Soto making it 5-3.

In the Top of the 5th, DeRosa had a double to the wall at right field, scoring Lee, making it 6-4.

In the 5th inning, things started going down hill…. Fukudome made a great play getting the lead runner out at 3rd, making a good throw to 3rd base. But with a man on 2nd and 1st, Wilson hits an RBI double, making it 6-5. Pitching change is made, Samardzija replaces Zambrano. Ground ball hit to Theriot, Theriot throws to Ramirez, getting Wilson in a run down, getting him out, but scoring an RBI making it 6-6. A double switch is made. Cotts is in for Samardzija. And Mike Fontenot is in playing 2nd base.

In the 6th, Soto had a solo homerun making it 7-6. He has 4 RBI’s.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, man on first, Soriano misses a ROUTINE POP UP, (HOW CAN YOU MISS A ROUTINE POP UP!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) 2 men on. That’s their 3rd error!!!!!!! in ONE GAME! come on now.. we need a 6-4-3 double play badly. Fontenot makes a HUGE diving play, getting the out at first. Good job Font!!! Ugh, 2 run double by Mientkiewicz making it 8-7.. Chad Gaudin replaces Cotts… all right Gaudin.

7th inning is here…We need our Cubbie rally NOW. Lets go RAMIREZ!!!!! alright a leadoff walk.. now we need REED JOHNSON!!! Alright reaching on a walk is just as good as getting a single.. come on Cedeno, MAN!!! with a force out at 3rd, you should bunt on the third base side.. not 1st base side. Wild pitch lets Reed and Cedeno advance a base. Doesnt matter anyways…

Bottom of the 7th; Sean Marshall replaces Chad Gaudin… bunt single by Morgan. Morgan steals but overslides and Ryan Theriot keeps the tag on him. He’s OUT! nice play by Theriot. Marshall stirkes a buc out. Making it a 1,2,3 inning.

Top of the 8th; Mike (Mini Sultan of Swat) Fontenot is the leadoff hitter. Basehit up the middle for the FONT! Nice hit Font! Basehit for Soriano!! Fontenot tries for 3rd and gets it! 1st and 3rd no outs. now we need THE RIOT!! WALK FOR THERIOT!!! BASES LOADED, DERREK LEE IS UP! 3-2 count… and the verdict is… foul. alright.. we’ll try this again… the verdict is.. A WALK!! Bases loaded walk! TIED 8-8 no outs. Aramis Ramirez is up. 3-0 a batter’s count.. and the verdict is…. WALK!! 9-8 CUBS LEAD!!! Pirates pitcher Hansen has walked 3 back to back to back. Burnett comes in for Hansen. No outs. Reed Johnson is up to bat. BASE HIT!!!!! THERIOT SCORES 10-8 CUBS! Henry Blanco’s up. This has been a LONG 8th. Blanco pop’s up to shallow right. Derrek Lee doesnt tag up. 1 out.  Fukudome is up. Fukudome strikes out making it 2 outs. SOTO’s turn. SOTO HAS A BASES LOADED CLEARING DOUBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 13-8 CUBS!!!!!!!!!!! 7 RBI’S FOR SOTO!! HOLY COW!! SOTO IS HAVING AN AWESOME NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They batted around the order, Fontenot is up for the 2nd time this inning. FONTENOT HAS AN RBI DOUBLE!!!!!!!! 14-8 CUBS!!! HOLY COW! THE MINI SULTAN OF SWAT STRIKES AGAIN! WOW. The Cubs never seize to amaze me.

14-9… come on Kerry Wood, end this. End it like Carlos Marmol did.

CUBS WIN!!

You just don’t quit until some mathematician tells you you’re eliminated”
